The research will focus on the development of small AI/ML systems. With the results of these efforts, NOAA and Google Cloudoffsite Link will then focus entirely on executing prototypes that NOAA could ultimately operate throughout their organization. If successful, it has the potential to be a significant leap in NOAA`s ability to use the enormous volume and variety of environmental data to improve forecasting, including for extreme weather events such as hurricanes and tornadoes. This agreement will allow NOAA and Google to collaborate on a number of projects and provide NOAA members with practical AI training opportunities. NOAA`s ia strategy aims to develop new technologies and approaches to improve efficiency and skills through AI-related partnerships, training and development. As part of this three-year agreement on the Other Transaction Authority (OTA), NESDIS and Google will lead specific AI and ML-related projects to strengthen NOAA`s environmental monitoring, weather forecasting, climate research and technical innovation. The NoAA Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS) has signed an agreement with Google to study the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for improving NOAA`s use of satellite and environmental data. „Strengthening NOAA`s data processing through the use of big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning and other advanced analytical approaches is critical to maintaining and improving the performance of our public safety and economic support systems,” said Neil Jacobs, Ph.D., NOAA`s Acting Administrator. „I am pleased to use the new authorities granted to NOAA to pursue innovative technologies that will enhance our mission and better protect life and property.” NOAA has developed a Ki/ML strategy and data strategy to significantly accelerate data usage within the Agency and with other key partners, maximize openness and transparency, accomplish mission and secure resources, while protecting quality, integrity, security, privacy and confidentiality. „By bringing together NOAA and Google`s know-how and talent, we can explore both AI/ML resources and methods to achieve more efficient use of satellite data and other environmental data,” said Mike Daniels, Vice President, Global Public Sector, Google Cloud.
